Acne is one of the most prevalent skin maladies there is and as such, it is also the subject of many experimental studies which aim to come up with a permanent solution. There are several myths that acne patients should be aware of in order to be certain that they will be able to address the condition using facts that are based on what medical experts say.
Myth: Excellent hygiene will cure acne.
Truth: Although it is always a must to maintain cleanliness, it will not be able to get rid of acne. Actual treatment is still necessary in order to get rid of the skin eruptions and to prevent them from coming back.
Myth: Exercise can clear/worsen acne
Truth: Physical activities have not been proven to have a direct effect on the development or eradication of acne. You have to understand that this skin condition is caused by the state of your body’s internal make up i.e. hormonal imbalance, excessive production of sebaceous glands, etc. Exercise will not make acne better or worse.
Myth: Only oily skin types are prone to acne.
Truth: Any type of skin is at risk of developing pimples or acne. Even if you have dry skin, there is still a chance that you might suffer from this malady due to other factors.
Myth: Constant hydration will cure acne.
Truth: While it is true that you should consume at least 8-10 glasses every day because it is good for the skin, dealing with acne is a quite a different matter altogether. It needs to be addressed using methods that will target the main cause of the condition in the first place. Drinking a lot of liquids will not hurt though, so there is no reason why you should reduce water intake.
Myth: Having regular facials will reduce the occurrence of acne
Truth: It would help your skin greatly if you maintain it well but getting facials on a regular basis will not guarantee the eradication of acne. If anything, it can actually cause the skin to become irritated especially if the procedure includes pricking the bumps. If your acne is very serious, make sure that they are not disturbed as much as possible as it can cause infection or bleeding.
Myth: Sleep deprivation worsens acne
Truth: There is no direct link between sleep and the level of severity of acne. However, it is a fact that getting enough sleep is good for the skin in general as it is during REM when cell regeneration occurs. The skin needs cell regeneration just as much as all the other organs in the body so that it can function as well as it should.
Being aware of the myths about acne and skin care in general will help you in getting the right cure as opposed to settling with self-medication that is almost always based on uninformed guesses. If you want to have a clearer skin, make sure that you will rely on what the experts say so that you will not waste time and money on urban myths that might cause more harm than good.
