I believe that one of the factors that contributed to my having no lasting effects from acne was because I had very oily skin. When I say oily, I mean “oily”, at the time I saw it as punishment for not scrubbing my face enough or eating the wrong food like too many fried fries, my self-esteem was around zero and anybody even with a few pimples ranked above me.
Some suggested things I could do to help the problem, some were pretty lame, like I shouldn’t look in the mirror and they didn’t know that the mirror had a mind of its own, its pull was enormous. It was difficult not to be drawn to the thing that would let me evaluate the advancement of a given pimple; was it at the squeezable stage or did I have to live another day waiting. One glance could make a huge difference in how I felt for the rest of the day, I was sure everybody was looking at that pimple waiting to see if it would pop. My defense was to let my hair hang down and to lower my head to hide it as much as possible. I had the compounded problem of oily skin and very oily hair, which is not uncommon with acne. My oily hair was acerbating the problem and letting it hang down onto my face didn’t help, if anything it made it worse.
I know you came to the site because you were looking for answers and here are a few home remedies for acne that I feel may really be of benefit, they all have been tried and had good results. These all are an alternative treatment for acne, that may help and save money on the commercial products.
Home Remedies for Acne
Lavender compresses work well to relieve the inflammation that goes with acne. To make, start by soaking two tablespoons of dried lavender in a jug of hot water. Soak strips of bandage in the hot mixture and apply to the face.
Vegetable juices – Juicing of vegetables is the best way of getting all the nutrients from the vegetables, the juices are more easily absorbed by the body helps you absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables and will give a wider selection of vegetables that you might not consume on their own. Cucumber and carrots are especially good for the treatment of acne.
Cucumber juice – Squeeze out the juice and apply to the pimples using a cotton ball.
Egg white mask – Beat an egg white until frothy, dip a cotton ball into the egg and apply on clean face, wait a few hours and wash. The majority of teens testing this method found a definite difference, fewer blackheads, whiteheads, redness, size of pores and left the skin smooth and soft. That would have been enough of a reason for me to try.
Tea bag presses – take used tea bag that hasn’t had the water squeezed out, place on the pimples dab it on the pimples; this will help bring pimples to a head quicker. Rinse off your face. A tea rinse on oily hair also helps with the oiliness and gives the hair a shine.
Banana Mask – Before going to bed scrape the inside peel of a ripe banana and apply to the affected area, cover with surgical gauze and tape in place. The sugar and enzymes will fight infection and draw out impurities.
Big Rewards Come Later – There has been a big reward resulting from having a very oily skin and hair. When my friends, that hadn’t dealt with oiliness, are spending a lot of money on finding the right products to prevent wrinkles or dry skin, I just wash my face with dove. I don’t give wrinkles a thought. Up until my 40’s I still had some residual oiliness, but nothing that gave me any problems. I am in my late 60’s now- Oh, my God I can’t be that I’m that old, I know that sounds ancient to you. Seems amazing that the feelings associated with teens have stayed so fresh in my mind, but I don’t think anybody who has had acne, regardless of age, will ever. It doesn’t mean it has ruined our lives; I have a few not readily noticeable wrinkles at the corners of my eyes but not other signs of aging that are expected at my age, without cosmetic surgery. At long last the problem that was so devastating in my youth has had a huge payoff. It makes me want to strut, when people can’t believe my true age. I’m not saying I had to wait till this stage of my life to start looking good, once past the teens, my face lost some of the oiliness and I bid goodbye to the pimples and blackheads; I knew that I was looking pretty dam good and my self esteem was returning.
Thankfully if treatments like the home remedies above don’t work enough, there are over-the-counter products that can help and if necessary a trip to the dermatologist may be needed.
