They are normally low priced when matched up to prescription medications and some perform marvelously. The most generally used “over-the-counter” acne medication is Benzoyl peroxideand for good reason; it is one of the most efficient acne medication presented. In addition, benzoyl peroxide has been contrasted to some of the prescription medicines for acne and it is almost as effectual as numerous acne antibiotics. On the whole, it is the most efficient “over-the-counter” acne prescription. On the other hand, there are others which can be very advantageous as well, comprising salicylic acid. It is a beta hydroxy acid and it works as an acerbic to eliminate dead skin cells. Removing of these dead cells helps in eliminating blocked pores, plus helps the skin to restore itself sooner. As acne is caused by bacteria which produce sebum in the pores of the skin, it is very essential for the sebum to have a means of removing out of the pores earlier than it turns out to be contaminated. Once salicylic acid is used to remove the dead cells, then the sebum is much less expected to turn out to be trapped beneath the skin and infected. Salicylic acid is generally used as a makeup remover, but it is generally used in acne healing via oxy pads or stridex pads. Sulfur is one of the medications used in some “over-the-counter” acne medication. It’s a very old acne treatment and reacts with the skin cells in such a means that it turns its peel and dry. This fights with acne by dehydrating the Sebum and as a result, preventing the bacteria to reproduce. A lot of facial soap cleansers contain sulfur as an ingredient. Sulfur is very efficient in removing blackheads and whiteheads. It is not much efficient over swollen cystic acne. Its one of the major drawbacks is that it can boost skin cell bond to the skin and as a result creates chances of more acnes in the future. It is fine to make use of a mild exfoliator when using sulfur to cure acne. In addition, sulfur has a very strong fragrance and few folks have skin which reacts ruthlessly with sulfur, causing too much peeling and redness. One more “over-the-counter” chemical which is used to heal different skin conditions, counting acne is Resorcinol. It functions by splitting tough skin. For acne, this means less blocked pores and more rapidly skin development. Resorcinol is generally used with sulfur to cure acne. Moreover, resorcinol is good for dandruff and eczema. Since it is a very strong element, never use resorcinol with other astringents or cleansers unless advised by a dermatologist to do so. These are the most widely used “over-the-counter” acne healing products. For someone who is experiencing acne on his or her body, these four “over-the-counter” healings provide a good opportunity of helping to reduce acne. A wide range of medications are available today which have proven effective in the treatment of acne. Find the ones that work and know how to use them for maximum acne effect.br

Have you ever had acne? Chances are that you have had or are still having acne. Teens are primarily the ones cursed with at least with a mild form of acne. But what is acne? Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, occurs when oil and dead skin cells form a plug and clog your follicles or pores.

Eighty-five percent of teenagers have had at least a mild form of acne. During puberty increased hormone levels cause an increase in oil production. This increased oil can then combine with dead skin cells and cause acne. Acne does not discriminate though as some adults, especially women, have intermittent acne all their lives.

What is acne symptoms going to look like to most people? You will most likely notice an outbreak of whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. These can occur on your face, back, shoulders, or chest. Whiteheads and blackheads are clogged pores, while pimples have a bacteria build-up under the clogged pores. Large and deep pimples are called cystic lesions and can be quite painful and create scarring.

What is acne treatments going to consist of? Acne treatments depend upon the severity of the acne. The goal is to reduce or eliminate acne outbreaks and reduce any scarring that may occur with an acne outbreak. The first method of treatment to begin with is cleansing with a mild soap and warm water and using benzoyl peroxide. This often controls and prevents mild acne.

If this does not reduce or eliminate the acne outbreaks, you will need to consult a physician to try more aggressive treatments. The physician may prescribe antibiotics combined with topical benzoyl peroxide. This increases the effectiveness of your treatment. If there is still no improvement and the acne is severe, the physician may recommend Accutane as a last resort. Accutane has rare but serious side effects and is very expensive. A new treatment available is Light Wave Therapy. This treatment was recently approved by the FDA and is helpful in reducing and eliminating mild to moderate acne that has not been responsive to other treatments.

What is acne reducing things that you can do to help reduced your symptoms or outbreaks? Things you can do to help reduce your acne symptoms are cleansing your face twice daily using a mild soap and warm water. Use your clean, bare hands to wash your face rather than a washcloth. Vigorous rubbing of your skin will only make your acne worse. Follow your Doctor’s directions fully. This will help to ensure that your acne is reduced or eliminated.

What is acne? Acne is a condition that can cause moderate to severe embarrassment and self-esteem problems, as well as depression. If your acne is not responding to treatment then seek out a treatment that works for you or your skin.

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases among teens and adults. When acne is severe it can lead to permanent scarring. Acne is normally found on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders.

What is Acne?

Tiny hairs, that are barely noticeable, cover your face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. Each hair has a hair follicle with an oil gland surrounding the base of the follicle. Secretion from the oil gland flows through the hair follicle. When the hair follicle gets blocked the oil gland can not secrete through the hair follicle. Bacteria will begin to develop in the blocked follicle, which will cause inflammation. The secretion will continue from the oil gland into the hair follicle, which will cause the hair follicle to swell and burst. Bacteria will then spill onto the skin.

What causes Acne?

The exact cause of acne has not been determined. Research has shown that teens have a higher hormone level during puberty, which causes the oil glands around the hair follicles to secrete more oil. The hair follicle will get blocked with the excess oil secretion.

Heredity may be another factor. Family history will show whether acne is a problem within your family.

What causes Acne to be worse?

For girls, hormone changes may cause acne to become
worse. Changes in hormone levels occur prior to the menstrual cycle and starting or stopping birth control pills. This may cause acne to become worse.

Stress may cause your acne to become worse.

Certain drugs will cause your acne to flare up.

Acne can become worse when the hair follicles are under pressure. Makeup that contains oil can cause the hair follicles to stick together, which causes blockage. Applying pressure to areas prone to acne will cause the hair follicles to become blocked. Resting your face in your hands, wearing a backpack, a tight collar, or a helmet can cause the hair follicles to become stuck together and blocked.

Pollution in the air and a humid climate can worsen your acne.

Don’t Pick!

When you squeeze or pick at your acne you will make it worse.

Scrubbing your face hard will also make it worse.

What doesn’t cause acne?

1) Dirty Skin
2) Greasy Food
3) Eating Chocolate

Types of Acne

Whitehead / Blackhead – When the hair follicle is blocked it can become a whitehead or a blackhead. A whitehead is a small white bump on the skin that has not opened on the top of the skin. The blackhead is formed when it has reached the top of the skin and opened. The black is not dirt.

Papules – A small pink bump on the skin that is tender to the touch is an inflamed blocked follicle.

Pustules – Pimples are inflamed and filled with pus and red at the base.

Nodules – Located deep within the skin, these are solid lesions that are large and painful.

Cysts – Pus filled lesions that are deep and inflamed. Cysts can cause permanent scarring.

Acne Medication

A dermatologist can treat acne to help reduce scarring and recurrence of the lesions.

Acne medication will help reduce the blocked hair follicles, oil production of the skin, bacteria, and the inflammation caused by acne.

Over the counter medication is available for the treatment of acne. A prescription medication will usually contain an antibiotic to help control the growth of bacteria.

Acne Skin Care

Wash your face gently. Wash twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, using a mild cleanser. Remember, if you scrub hard you may cause your acne to become worse. Rinse your face thoroughly.

Wash your hair regularly. Wash it daily if your hair is oily.

Don’t touch your skin. Scarring can occur if you pick or squeeze your acne.

Use oil free makeup.

What causes Acne?

Did you know that common Acne, also known as Acne Vulgaris, is suffered by up to 85% of adolescents and young adults? That is an extremely high portion of the population which is affected by this skin disorder.

The cause of Acne is not fully known, but there are several factors which contribute to the development of this inflammatory skin disorder. Your genes play a role in this, meaning if your parents or grandparents suffered this skin condition, you will be prone to getting Acne yourself.

Most notably, there is a link to a change in hormonal activity, such as menstrual cycles and puberty. In the past the over production of sebum was considered to be the main cause of Acne. Sebum is an oily secretion of fats and the remains of fat producing cells, caused by hyperactive sebaceous glands in the skin.

However, it appears as though the narrowing of follicle channel, where the hair is rooted in the skin, is also a major factor causing common Acne. There are several other factors which can contribute, such as Stress, accumulation of dead skin cells, an allergic reaction to bacteria in the pores, scratching and the usage of anabolic steroids.

What has not been confirmed in any way, is the contribution a fatty diet, including chocolate, potato chips and French fries, may have on Acne. Generally, sufferers should experiment with their diet to ascertain what food stuffs affect the severity of their Acne.

What could have an influence on Acne is a diet high on refined sugar products. Acne is rare in societies which have not been influenced by our western way of life. These people have a low glycernic level in their diets. However, if the reduction of high glycernic foods, such has soft drinks, sweets and white bread, has a significant effect on alleviating Acne disorders has yet to be proved. Keeping a low consumption of these kinds of foods will influence your general health for the better.

Another misconception concerning Acne is personal hygiene. Acne is not caused by dirt, so a poor personal hygiene is not a factor. To make this clearer, Acne causes blockages to occur deep within the follicle or hair channel and as such cannot be washed away. In fact, anything more than a gentle cleansing can cause new lesions by damaging or over drying skin.

On a lighter note, if you have heard that celibacy or masturbation can cause Acne and sexual intercourse can cure it, I have good news for you. There is absolutely no scientific evidence at all that this is true.

Most people will suffer from acne at some point in their life. Everyone’s skin condition and chemistry are different so there can be no set remedy to prevent or clear existing acne. The good news is that it can be treatable. People make the mistake of letting it run its course, thinking they will outgrow it. Sometimes that is just not good enough.
With so many acne medications available over-the-counter or by prescription, it can be frustrating finding one that works. But something out there will work for you if you just keep trying. If you find that you are getting nowhere with your acne, try finding something more specific to your skin type.
Common over-the-counter (OTC) acne medications available are: Stri-dex, Clearasil, Oxy, Neutrogena On-the-Spot, Cetaphil, and Persa-Gel 10. These can be found in most drug and grocery stores. The prices may vary ($4-$14) but price does not necessarily mean it will work the best on your acne. There is also a variety in the form of the medication, such as: gels, lotions, creams, and medicated pads. The form of the acne medication does not usually effect how well it treats your skin. Do not be discouraged if a product that you try makes your acne worse. Sometimes we must take a step back to make progress. Make a note of the ingredients in what you used and, in the future, only use medicines that do not contain any or much of this. You should always read the labels before purchasing a product. You wouldn’t order a dish at a restaurant if you didn’t know what was in it, would you? If you skin is oily, then you may choose to purchase something that is especially for treating oily skin.
If your skin is too sensitive for OTC acne medications that you have tried, then perhaps you should consult a Dermatologist. Some forms of acne can not be treated without a prescription. The doctor may prescribe an oral antibiotic instead of a topical acne medication for severe cases. These are commonly used to decrease inflammation that can contribute to acne.
Topical prescription acne medication for severe cases of acne usually contains retinoids. Retinoids prevent blackheads and whiteheads, while un-clogging your pores. The downside to this is that you could have increased sensitivity to the sun or develop an irritation. It is possible for fine lines and wrinkles to be reduces with this treatment, which is a bonus advantage to having younger and healthier looking skin.
In addition to typical acne medication options, there are some home remedies include treating with Hydrogen Peroxide, toothpaste, or diluted alcohol. If you experiment with these, you may end up with a cheap solution to your acne. Peroxide could speed up the healing process of existing acne. It kills germs to drastically reduce inflammation. Toothpaste can be applied lightly on spots that appear before the actual acne has formed. Usually, this is left on overnight and washed off in the morning. It dries up excess oils that can contribute to the formation of acne. Pure alcohol should never be applied to the skin. However, if you dilute it half with water to gently wash your face, you can dry up excess oils without completely drying out your skin.
Acne is a common problem and getting treated is nothing to be ashamed of. No one should have to live with the embarrassment of acne. There is an effective method out there for you, as long as you are willing to take the time to find it.
